Garment Technologist
Position Summary:
The Garment Technologist plays a critical role in ensuring that garments meet the required standards of quality, fit, and functionality. Positioned within the manufacturing office, this role serves as a technical bridge between the Club L brand and the garment factories/CMT units. The technologist will oversee all technical aspects from development to bulk production, ensuring smooth communication and compliance with brand specifications.
This role will be based full time from our Leicester manufacturing centre.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Development & Sampling
- Review and interpret tech packs/spec sheets from brands.
- Advise on garment construction, fabric suitability, and trim application during development.
- Participate in sample development stages (proto, fit, size set, pre-production).
- Provide technical guidance to pattern makers and sample room.
Fit & Construction
- Conduct fit sessions and assess garments against brand fit standards.
- Document fit comments clearly and communicate with the pattern cutters for required revisions.
- Suggest construction improvements for better fit, quality, and production efficiency.
Communication & Coordination
- Act as the technical liaison between Design Team and Leicester manufacturing site..
- Translate design comments into factory-appropriate language (e.g., pattern corrections, sewing adjustments).
Quality Assurance
- Support quality teams in setting standards and checkpoints.
- Train factory staff on brand requirements and acceptable quality levels.
- Help resolve technical issues during bulk production (e.g., seam slippage, puckering).
- Conduct risk assessments and identify potential technical issues before production.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Degree/Diploma in Garment Technology, Fashion Technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience as a Garment Technologist or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, pattern-making, grading, and fitting.
- Familiarity with knit products -womenswear.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting tech packs, specs, and patterns.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple styles and deadlines.
Desirable:
- Experience working with international fashion brands/retailers.
- Familiarity with PLM systems or pattern software (e.g., Vetigraph, Investronica).
